Atlas Polar introduces Moffett M10 – A powerful telescopic boom truck-mounted forklift

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

The latest Moffett truck-mounted forklift continues the tradition of excellence that the company is known for. Designed for applications where loading is done from one side of a truck, the Moffett M10 25.3 is based on extensive research and consultations with customers.

The M10 25.3 piggyback forklift has a telescopic boom that allows for loading and unloading of single stacked loads from one side of the truck or trailer. Because there is no need to move the truck during loading and unloading, the M10 saves time and boosts efficiency.

Time is also saved by the quick mounting and dismounting cycle of the Moffett forklift. Operators can have the forklift off the truck in less than a minute, meaning there is no time spent waiting on site.

Designed to be durable and operator-friendly, the M10 25.3 offers the same ergonomics and performance as forklifts with a conventional mast, but with its telescoping boom, it also provides additional functionality and versatility.

The M10 offers many great features: 360º visibility from the spacious operator’s cab; easy joystick control; a 37.3 kW / 50hp Kubota engine that offers excellent performance with reduced noise and vibration; off-road capability; a tight turning circle that makes it ideal for confined spaces; and easy servicing.

Suited for turf and lawn, fertilizer, brick and block, architectural stone, animal feed, scaffolding and any other industry where loading is done from one side of the truck, the M10 is an indispensable asset that will improve efficiency and customer service.

HIAB Supports Firefighters in Zwickau

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

When most of us think about firefighting equipment, large ladder trucks are usually the first thing that comes to mind. But firefighting also requires support vehicles that can manage additional equipment.

When assisting at a fire, speed is essential. That is why the Fire Brigade in Zwickau, Germany chose three HIAB products for its support vehicles. With the help of a HIAB 244 EP-5 HiDuo truck crane, a Multilift JHS 250 hooklift, and a Moffett M4 piggyback truck mounted forklift, the Zwickau brigade can load, transport and unload vital equipment at the scene of a fire. What’s more, because the HIAB equipment is easy to use with fast loading and unloading speeds, only one operator is required to manage the job.

The Zwickau Fire Brigade uses the Multilift hooklift to carry foam and other items in a two-level container. At the scene, the operator can easily unload the necessary equipment using either the Moffett forklift or HIAB crane. Operators have noted how easy the Moffett truck-mounted forklift makes their job. It has proven ideal for loading, unloading and setting up a foam station for mixing and refilling.

Atlas Polar is pleased to carry a wide range of HIAB products. For more information on the HIAB equipment we sell, we invite you to visit our product pages: Multilift Hooklifts, HIAB truck mounted cranes, and Moffett truck mounted forklifts.

Moffett M8 50.3 Forklift Used to Prepare Real Grass Field at Rogers Centre

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Get a Quote on a Moffett M8 50.3 Forklift

We talked in an earlier post about Atlas Polar customer Greenhorizons using Moffett M8 50.3 forklifts in a recent high-profile job.

An international leader in the turfgrass industry, Greenhorizons was asked to lay a real grass field on the concrete floor of the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The field was used for a soccer match between Manchester United and Celtic (won 3-1 by Manchester U).

The operation consisted of 18 tractor trailers, each loaded with 46 rolls of freshly harvested sod that measured 35 feet in length each. The rolls were particularly heavy-Greenhorizons cut the rolls extra thick so they would withstand the heavy play without shifting around.

Moffett M8 50.3 forklifts were an integral part of the entire operation. Off-loading from the trucks in less than minute, the forklifts got to work right away. The M8 50.3 model boasts a customizable lift height of either 120” or 144”. With a 5,000 pound lifting capacity @ 24” load centres, the forklifts were able to lift two rolls of sod at a time. Their 50 HP Kubota engines provided all the power needed to move these heavy loads into position.

In addition to being powerful, the M8 50.3 offers excellent operator ergonomics—more space in the cab, better visibility, and easily accessible controls. With a choice of tires, forks and attachments, this piggyback truck mounted forklift can be customized to suit virtually any type of job.

Greenhorizons Uses Moffett Forklifts at Rogers Centre

Monday, July 19th, 2010

A soccer match between Manchester United and Celtic was recently played at the Rogers Centre in Toronto and Moffett truck mounted forklifts played an important part in getting the field ready.

Atlas Polar customer Greenhorizons was awarded the contract to convert the Rogers Centre field to a real grass playing surface. Real grass is preferred by players because it is more forgiving than artificial turf and leads to fewer injuries.

So how do you convert a concrete slab into a soccer pitch worthy of two high-calibre professional soccer teams? Greenhorizons selected an unusually thick cut of their Premium Low Mow sod blend. This turf is rugged and holds up well to hard play. Because of their thickness, the rolls of sod were extremely heavy. The extra weight ensured that the sod did not shift during the game.

To unload the sod, Greenhorizons relied on Moffett M8 50.3 piggyback truck mounted forklifts—high capacity forklifts that are ideal for this kind of work. The forklifts are part of the company’s purpose-built fleet that gets the job done with minimal impact on the turf.

The process for laying the field began on July 14 when sod was harvested. The sod required for the job was loaded onto 18 tractor trailers and brought to the Rogers Centre on July 15, giving the crew plenty of time to lay the sod before the July 16th match.

Watch the time-elapsed video clip here to see the Greenhorizons team in action.

We’ll talk more a little more about the forklift used in this job in a future post. In the meantime, you can learn more about it by visiting our Moffett M8 50.3 truck mounted forklift page.

Moffett Truck Mounted Forklifts Deliver Architectural Glass

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

When it comes to specialized deliveries, Moffett truck-mounted forklifts really get the job done. Architectural glass is just the latest example of the varied loads that Moffett forklifts can handle.

Architectural glass is used as a building material. When you see stores with large windows built right into the walls, you are looking architectural glass. This type of glass can also be used for partition walls and other architectural details. Architectural glass is designed with safety considerations in mind and is often either tempered or laminated to increase strength and ensure that, if it breaks, it shatters into small pieces instead of large shards.

Even though the glass is stronger than standard glass, it still requires special handling. The process involves unloading the glass from curtainside trailers at the delivery site. Because Moffett forklifts have low height and excellent manoeuvrability, they can be used successfully in such fragile deliveries.

As you can imagine, the large size of these tempered glass sheets makes them quite heavy. While glass of 1/8” thickness can weigh 1.6 lb/ft2, sturdier panels, up to ¾” thick, can weigh as much as 9.8 lb/ft2. When you consider the volume required, that weight adds up in a hurry.

The standard Moffett M8 50.3 can lift 5,000 pounds @ 24” load centres, making it ideal for handling many large glass panels in one load. To see one of these forklifts in action, check the PDF link provided here.

Moffett Forklifts Deliver Roadside Barriers with Ease

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

We’ve all seen those concrete barriers that get placed on roadsides during construction. Weighing in at around 2,500 kg, these barriers take considerable effort to install, but the Moffett M8 80.3 forklift makes installation much faster and more efficient.

With a Moffett truck-mounted forklift, there is no need for a boom truck to install these heavy barriers. The Moffett is carried on the back of the transport truck and easily demounts to install the barriers.

With its travel ability and all-wheel drive, the Moffett forklift has the maneuverability to get the job done—operators can unload and place a barrier and then return to the truck for the next one, without ever having to move the truck.

The Moffett M8 80.3 is the forklift of choice for Hardstaff Barrier Services, a UK company that is that country’s market leader in deploying concrete safety barriers.

The company chose Moffett because it offers the power and versatility they need: a reinforced chassis that can hold the barrier when travelling; reinforced mast; a wide cargo bay; counterweights to allow for the transport of heavy concrete barriers on the front of the forklift; additional work lamps that improve visibility during evenings and early mornings; 376cc wheel motors for faster ground speeds; a range of safety features that make the movement of these heavy loads more secure.

If the Moffett M8 80.3 truck-mounted forklift can handle heavy loads of concrete, just imagine what it can do for your business. To learn more, visit our Moffett M8 80.3 page.

Moffett Forklifts Ideal for Bottled Gas Delivery

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

With its speed, efficiency and secure handling, the Moffett truck-mounted forklift is ideal for distributing gas bottles, from factory to the end user. In fact, Moffett forklifts can be used at all points of the distribution cycle: from factory to dealer and from dealer to customer.

A Moffett truck-mounted forklift offers many benefits for this kind of distribution.

Moffett forklifts add versatility. You can easily deliver one bottle or several, depending on the needs of your customer. With its small footprint and tremendous maneuverability, the Moffett enables you to take deliveries to the exact spot they are needed, even behind or inside buildings. Being able to offer this level of service will make your business more competitive.

What’s more, you do not need to worry about parking the delivery truck close to the delivery site—you can park wherever it is convenient and let the Moffett forklift do the rest.

Efficiencies are realized all around. With a Moffett forklift, loading and unloading speeds are greatly improved. The forklift itself only takes 30 seconds to mount or demount. Faster loading times translate into more loads per day, which is good for the bottom line.

Because the Moffett forklift is so easy to use, only one driver is needed. In fact, CEPSA Spain found that Moffett forklifts enabled them to reduce their total number of staff while maintaining the same delivery volume.

Safety is also ensured. Moffett trucks eliminate the need for drivers to handle gas bottles, making deliveries more secure and reducing injuries.

Moffett forklifts are flexible and powerful performers. To learn more about what they can do for your business, visit our Moffett Truck Mounted Forklifts page.

What Will They Think of Next?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Cargotec is well known for its innovation and its commitment to finding eco-friendly solutions for materials management. The parent company of Hiab, Moffett and Multilift has done it again with its new Kalmar Edrive® straddle carrier.

As the seventh generation in this line, the Edrive (ESC350W) meets the industry’s increasingly strict environmental and noise regulations. The Edrive features electrically controlled engines that reduce emissions and save operators money by lowering fuel consumption. The winch system has full AC drives that enable regenerative power distribution between the hoist and drive functions – another innovation that lessens the impact on the environment and makes the machines quieter. As with all Cargotec products, driver comfort and safety were also factored into the new design.

The Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) is set to receive four of the Edrive straddle carriers in the second quarter of this year. Their units will include variable speed generator systems to optimize engine use and further reduce emissions and fuel consumption. PNCT chose the Edrive, in part, because of Cargotec’s commitment to parts availability and service, as well as the company’s impressive environmental track record.

Atlas Polar is a longtime partner of Cargotec and we are proud to promote yet another forward-thinking design. To learn more about the Cargotec products we carry, visit our home page and follow the links.

Cargotec Leads the Way Again

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Cargotec, the parent company for HIAB knuckleboom cranes, Moffett truck mounted forklifts and Multilift hooklift systems, has won the best ship loading system award from the International Bulk Journal.

The Siwertell ship unloader bested the other four finalists, and was deemed the most efficient, safe and innovative.

As is the case with all Cargotec products, the Siwertell line combines safety, efficiency, and versatility, all while emphasizing environmental sustainability. The Siwertell line offers fully-enclosed bulk handling solutions and dust-free loading and unloading systems. Not only are these systems cleaner, they also offer some of the highest loading capacities in the industry.

Versatility is achieved through the four groups of loading systems. Each group is defined by the size of ship being loaded or unloaded, the rated unloading capacity, and the type of material being moved. The supporting steel structure is the key – it can be made to accommodate different conveyor sizes and can be fabricated in different lengths for various sized ships.

With over 300 Siwertell systems installed around the world, this award-winning technology is yet another Cargotec success story.

As a proud seller of Cargotec products, Atlas Polar would like to congratulate everyone at Cargotec for this outstanding achievement.
