The seventh edition of HIAB Method magazine highlights a trade show held in Toronto at which Atlas Polar “put on show a HIAB 174 Speedloader equipped with a 5-h.p. electric motor to supply it with pressurised oil.” The show was attended by about 75,000 people from across North America, who saw the “Boom with Reeeeeach” put through its paces in live demonstrations of the crane’s many capabilities.

Atlas Polar was an exhibitor alongside Shumaker Industries showing off the Mixveyor ready-mix conveyor systems to the throngs at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in Las Vegas at the Con-Expo show last week. Kimble Custom Chassis had one of our 51″ Mixveyor units in their booth installed on a customer truck. Did they ever get a lot of traffic and questions from attendees!

Con-Expo 2011 attracted nearly 120,000 registered attendees. The majority of show attendees were key company decision-makers, including 44 percent with the top titles of president/owner and vice president/general manager/chief financial officer.

The Mixveyor concrete conveyor allows for tremendous flexibility in delivering ready-mix to a job site. It reaches 51’ and allows operators to pour in a 300º arc around the truck. The Atlas Polar Front Discharge Mixveyor is the first-ever front-mounting concrete conveyor, giving operators better visibility as it reaches distances of 36’ and pours in a 220º arc around the truck.

For fifteen years now, Atlas Polar has been distributing conveyor systems for trucks to handle ready mix concrete. In an interesting parallel, Cargotec (parent company of Hiab, Moffett, and Multilift) has announced the sale of MacGregor cement self-loading/unloading systems to Shin Yang Shipping of Malaysia. The systems will be installed on two 7,000 dwt barges.

The cement-handling system is known as Nordströms. It consists of mechanical and pneumatic conveyors that can be combined to match the required handling rate, making them easily adaptable to any size or type of ship. The attached moving diagram shows how the system works.

With some innovations in truck design and the addition of a 52’ telescopic Mixveyor, the Central Supply Company of West Virginia has extended the reach of its ready-mix trucks to compensate for the uneven terrain frequently found on building sites in the state.

The attached article describes how the truck was modified: “Kimble Mixer stretched the Volvo VHD 64B-mounted mixer’s wheel base to 313 in., adding a steerable tag and three Hendrickson Composite SC10 steerable pusher axles.” With fewer axles, the truck would have been limited to 5-yd. loads, but the modifications make 9-yd. payloads possible.

The 52-ft. Atlas Polar Mixveyor satisfies the company’s need to better serve its customers. It allows for far greater mix placement reach than standard 40-ft. mixer-mounted belts and 32-m boom pumps.

Despite the recession, the construction industry in West Virginia has managed to keep humming, and Atlas Polar is pleased to be along for the ride.

A recent article on the Concrete Products website highlighted the first-ever 52-ft. Atlas Polar truck-mounted telescopic concrete conveyor to be used in the U.S. (The conveyor can be seen in the photograph that accompanies the article.)

With the 52-ft. conveyor and the seven-axle spec on its mixer, the West Virginia Independent Central Supply Company can transfer loads of 9-yards plus.

Concrete delivery at sites in West Virginia can be challenging because of the uneven terrain in many parts of the state. With the their new Atlas Polar concrete conveyor (just delivered at the beginning of October), Central Supply operators have been able to extend their mix placement reach, making the job of delivering concrete easier and making customers happier.

Atlas Polar is pleased to hear positive reviews after the 52-ft. conveyor was used by Central Supply in one commercial site and several residential sites. We’ve heard similar good reports from the Canadian ready-mix operators who have installed the 52-ft. model.

Hensel Ready Mix is proudly promoting the Front Discharge Mixveyor from Atlas Polar. On the first page of their website and in the flyer included here in PDF form, the company boldly states that it has “the first and only Front Discharge Conveyor Ready Mix Truck in the United States.”

Hensel Ready Mix is based in Ohio, with four locations supplying ready mix to customers. It is a family-owned company that has been in business since 1963. Founded by Clarence Hensel, it is now operated by his son Rodney, company president. The third generation entered the business when Ben Hensel assumed the role of general manager.

In addition to supplying ready mix concrete with its fleet of trucks, the company also has a portable ready mix plant available for on-site work.

In their promotional materials, Hensel Ready Mix makes note of the many benefits of the Front Discharge Mixveyor: lower cost, versatility, flexibility, and easier access to hard-to-reach areas. They also talk about the remote control and the ease with which pouring can be controlled from the cab or the placement area.

Back in February we talked about the upcoming open house at Shumaker Industries, an Atlas Polar dealer in Pennsylvania. We knew that their decision to feature the Front Discharge Mixveyor would get attention, but we were thrilled to hear how much demand there was to see this product.

It turns out that local ready-mix producers couldn’t wait to see the new Mixveyor. When they heard that Shumaker Industries was installing the nation’s first Front Discharge Mixveyor, they began asking for a demo. So Shumaker decided to hold an open house.

The open house was held February 25 and 26, 2010. As the staff at Shumaker can tell you, the weather did not work in their favour. Despite the snow, local producers turned out in great numbers so they could see what the staff at Shumaker referred to as “the most innovative development in concrete placement since the front-discharge mixer.”

At the open house, guests were able to see the Front Discharge Mixveyor up close. Seeing it in action showed them how the conveyor would fit into their businesses.
